Dsy 5 : Final Day of Unilever Future Leader's League 2017 |
Frequently Asked Questions :
"Hi Sonia! Are you having an internship in Unilever?" Or "Are you got accepted as Unilever employee?" Or "What did you do in Unilever office?" "Did you have a study tour or what kind of activity that you did in Unilever?"
Due to a lot of people asked me about what I did in Unilever Indonesia, I decided to make a post about a cool event that I joined last month which was Unilever Future Leader's League 2017. YEYYY!
Unilever Future Leader's League is an annual event held by Unilever, one of the biggest FMCG company in the world. This is not just an ordinary business case competition for undergraduate students in the world, but it is a combination between business competition and leadership camp. This event also provides us to learn how to be a better person that has a clear purpose.
Selected as one of the Top 30 Finalists from more than 350 applicants was being my privileged. I met the other brilliant students from different universities in Indonesia. All of them are expert on their fields and have amazing track-records. Some of them were being the winner of both international and national competitions, some were delegates from their universities to represent Indonesia in America, Europe, etc. Some are Mawapres, XLFL, Djarum, Astra 1st awardees, ambassador of certain companies, and the list still go on. And..... I just feel nothing if I am compared with them.
There are two phases for joining this event :
1st phase : CV - Academic Transcripts - Entry Questions submissions. AND ALSO Business Case Challenge in the form of video.
2nd phase : U-camp. Only the Top 30 students that will go into U-camp, and all the costs are fully-funded by Unilever (including my round-trip flight from Semarang to Jakarta). Thanks to Unilever! Hahaha.

ENTRY PHASE
Back to the entry phase of Unilever Future Leader's League 2017, I was considering whether to submit the application or not. The entry phase was being in the same time with my mid-term exams period. Meanwhile, I was becoming a project leader also at that time for an event that was held a week after the exams last. And it made my life really chaos at that time. But back then I still apply for it, because I had a big desire to join UFLL 2017. Thanks to my exchange sister back in Malaysia, Metta Handika, for recommended me to join this cool event!❤
Actually it was a bad option for a person that don't have any video editing skill at all. Because it took a very very long time to edit the video. I spent everyday of my exam days for solving the business case given and editing the video, instead of studying. But as we know, life is all about choices and struggles. When we want to get something good, all we need is to sacrifice for it. If I had not sacrificing, I definitely would miss the chance to meet the other 29 amazing individuals from all over Indonesia and also the inspiring mentors.
ANNOUNCEMENT
I still remembered, on November 5th, 2017, someone (Kak Tommy) from Unilever sent me an email :
Congratulations! You have passed the recruitment process of UFLL 2017. We are pleased to invite you to U-Camp from November 13-17th, 2017.
At first I didn't believe if I was accepted, since it was still H-1 from the announcement date which was November 6th, 2017. I thought it was just someone who prank me or sent random email to me for a certain purpose, maybe trying to collect my personal data or what else (HAHA sori Kak Tommy). But after I confirmed it, I trusted the announcement and I was really happy! Hahaha.

Sadly, there was only me that was accepted to U-camp from my university. And there was no other finalist that come from Semarang, so I went alone from Semarang to Jakarta. And Jakarta to BSD.
What I imagined at the announcement was I will meet the 'most ambitious and nerds from all over Indonesia'. But they proved me wrong! All of them are being the part of the nicest people that I've found. They have big empathy toward others. Humble and inspiring are the true words to describe them.

U-CAMP STORIES
Our first day was being held in Grha Unilever, BSD, Tangerang. This was a real office-goal for every people. It has Magnum Cafe, salon, daycare, gym, and so on. The following days of U-camp was held in Unilever Mega Mendung Learning Center (MMLC) Bogor. This place was also being a very comfortable place for us to stay, where there was free-flow ice cream! :3
In day 3, we visited Unilever Savoury Factory in Bekasi, to see directly about production and packaging process.
During those 5 days, we faced so many business challenges that we must did both in team and individually. We also got the sessions from Unilever managers and Vice President about how this big Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company like Unilever run its businesses. We learned a lot about Finance, Customer Insight, Customer Development, Supply Chain, and Marketing that really opened up our mind (which at first I only being familiar with finance stuffs, because it's related with my major). Furthermore, we also got the sessions & coaching time from the inspiring mentors about personal-development. It's really useful, since we got to know about ourselves better. We learned how to find a purpose in life, how to get connected with people, and how we got inspired by others.
I don't want to make a very detail post, since you guys must feel this fruitful experience by yourself. I encourage all of you that reading my post right know to join UFLL 2018 since it's worth it!
Thank you to 29 other amazing students in UFLL 2017 for being stranger that turns into family : a family that keep supporting each other and always giving positive lessons for me. Especially for Andry and Arry who were being my team-mates during those 5 days. We got an award of Selling-Out Champion Team because of our achievement in selling! Thank you for the sleepless nights together for doing the business challenges.
Day 4 : After doing group presentation, with my team-mates from Heron Team! |
